Cross marking light
North of the Kampen lighthouse in the Kampen dunes, the Red Cliff cross marking light operated from 1913 to 1975.
The red, eight-cornered 11.5 m high clinker brick building with white lantern dome roof is a fixed light with red and white sectors. The sector borders were white on red at 178.5° and ran over the light buoy - D – into the Lister Tief [a tidal inlet in the German Bight of the North Sea]. When this cross marking light was set up, the red sector could be removed from the main light. In 1936 the conversion to light bulbs took place, enhancing the light. The small eight-cornered cement tower was acquired from the Kampen municipality in 1976 to preserve it as a landmark.
